Best Underwater Scooters for Kids in 2026: Dive into Fun with ASIWO

The best underwater scooter for your child depends on swimming ability, the manufacturer's age requirements and how comfortably they can control it. For supervised surface play, MAKO is an option to assess only for children who meet its manual's 12+ age label and other use requirements. A handheld scooter requires a separate check of swimming skills, handling and the model's instructions. More power is not a reason to move a child into deeper water.

This is an ASIWO model guide based on published specifications and instructions, not an independent, hands-on ranking of every brand. Here is how to narrow your options before buying.

What should parents check first?

Start with eligibility, then compare features:

  1. Age and swimming ability. Check the manual supplied with the exact model. Adult supervision does not override an age restriction. If your child cannot swim independently, do not choose a handheld underwater scooter as a substitute for learning.
  2. Comfortable control. Check the handle reach, ability to hold and steer the device, and ability to release the controls. Weight matters when carrying it to the pool as well as when handling it in the water.
  3. Intended setting. Surface play and underwater propulsion are different activities. Choose for the setting your child can already manage, not a depth rating printed on a box.
  4. Runtime at the intended speed. Compare the relevant speed mode rather than treating the longest advertised runtime as an all-speed promise.

MAKO: an electric kickboard for surface play

The MAKO manual labels the model 12+. Adult supervision does not make it an option for children below that age. MAKO is designed for surface use rather than diving. Its board-style format differs from a handheld underwater scooter. The published weight is 2.6 kg including the battery, with up to 60 minutes in slow mode and 18 minutes in fast mode.

Non-swimmers must wear a properly fitted life jacket and remain under close adult supervision. MAKO is not lifesaving equipment or a replacement for swimming lessons. Check its current manual and your pool's rules before deciding whether it suits your child.

MANTA: a handheld option to assess for capable swimmers

The current MANTA product page lists a weight of 3.5 kg including the battery and runtimes of 35 minutes in slow mode, 20 minutes in middle mode and 12 minutes in fast mode.

Before buying MANTA for a child, ask ASIWO to confirm the minimum age for the current model. A child gaining confidence does not automatically need a more powerful device or deeper water.

MANTA 2: a higher-power option with a 14+ manual age label

The linked MANTA 2 manual labels the model 14+. Its product FAQ also says children must be confident swimmers and closely supervised. It is not a recommendation for younger children simply because it has a low-speed setting.

At 4.5 kg including the battery, it is heavier than MANTA. Published runtimes are 90, 30 and 13 minutes in slow, middle and fast mode respectively. Longer low-speed runtime should be weighed against handling and eligibility, not treated as a reason to buy it for every child.

Where does U1 fit?

U1 serves a separate, multi-purpose propulsion use case, including SUP and kayak applications. We do not include it as a default children's choice in this guide. If the actual purchase is for a paddleboard or kayak, review the equipment configuration and instructions on the ASIWO U1 product page instead.

Which model has the longest battery life?

Among MAKO, MANTA and MANTA 2, MANTA 2 has the longest published slow-mode runtime. That does not make it the best choice for every child.

Model Slow mode Fast mode
MAKO Up to 60 minutes Up to 18 minutes
MANTA Up to 35 minutes Up to 12 minutes
MANTA 2 Up to 90 minutes Up to 13 minutes

Sources: the linked official product specifications above. These are manufacturer figures, not results from a shared independent test. Actual runtime varies with use and conditions. Battery runtime is not a safe session length, and a scooter must never be the only way a child can return to the poolside or shore.

Safety features do not replace supervision

Choose a designated swimming area and keep an attentive adult supervising throughout. Young children and weak swimmers need close, within-arm's-reach supervision and an appropriate life jacket. The American Red Cross swimming guidance explains why recreational equipment cannot replace adult supervision.

Follow the model's instructions for flotation equipment, starting speed and controls. The MANTA 2 manual calls for an approved personal flotation device while snorkeling and a swimming cap, and warns against putting fingers inside the propeller cover. Keep hair and loose items away from moving parts. A floating device is not a guarantee that its user will stay afloat.

Stop the activity if the child is tired, frightened or unable to control the device. Do not use a scooter to extend a child's swimming range or encourage deeper dives.

FAQs

Is an electric kickboard the same as an underwater scooter?

No. MAKO is a board-style product intended for surface use. MANTA and MANTA 2 are handheld scooters. Decide which activity you actually want before comparing power or runtime.

Can a child under 14 use MANTA 2 with an adult?

The linked manual is marked 14+. Supervision is an additional requirement, not an exception to that label. Follow the instructions for the specific model you purchase.

Does a 90-minute battery mean my child can stay in the water for 90 minutes?

No. It is a published device-runtime figure for MANTA 2's slow mode, not a recommendation for a child's time in the water. End the activity based on the child's condition and the setting, well before return depends on remaining battery power.

Choose for the child, not the biggest specification

First confirm age eligibility, swimming ability and comfortable control. Then compare the appropriate model's runtime and current package. If any requirement is unclear, ask ASIWO before ordering.
